SEAHAWKS 43, BRONCOS 8: My Top 10 Super Bowl Whitty Comments

*So, this DFW sports dude won $20 million betting on the Super Bowl? Who and how ...

*Most refreshing commercial was two old dudes mumbling ...

*The Cowboys coulda had Kam Chancellor, but they instead drafted a cornerback named ...

WHITT'S END: 12.16.13

Whether you're at the end of your coffee, your day, your week or even your rope, welcome to Whitt's End:

   *Been watching/attending Cowboys' games since 1969 and I can't believe what I saw yesterday. The Cowboys had a 23-point halftime lead, a 350-yard passer, a 150-yard receiver, 130-yard rusher and ...

*Remember when I loaned my "friend" $6,500 over the summer? Well ...

WHITT'S END: 10.28.13

Whether you're at the end of your coffee, your day, your week or even your rope, welcome to Whitt's End:

*Dez Bryant's reasoning for being upset during Sunday's loss to the Lions was valid. But the way in which he displayed his frustration and totally lost control of his emotion was inexcusable. It's laughable that Bryant had only six passes thrown his way. He's got a point. But demonstratively yelling at coaches and quarterback Tony Romo is unprofessional and unacceptable. Worst part? Down 1 but about to receive the ball with 12 seconds remaining, the Cowboys were on the sideline attempting to draw up a miracle play. But a pouting, shouting Dez wanted no part of it. When Jason Witten approached to persuade him to join the think tank, Dez barked at him, adamantly flailed his arms and refused. When you have to be disciplined by Witten and DeMarcus Ware (veterans with a combined 20 years of NFL experience) and when you're no longer a solution to your team's problems, then - congratulations - you've officially become a distraction. Production "passion" my ass. His outbursts were a selfish liability on Sunday.

*You just witnessed the worst defensive month in the history of your Dallas Cowboys. Crazy that I'm pronouncing that just a week after they held the Eagles without a touchdown in Philly, but think about it: In October the Cowboys set dubious franchise records for most points allowed in a home game (51), most yards surrendered in a game (623), most points given up in a 4th quarter (24) and the second-biggest receiving day in NFL history (329). This team has a lot of problems, but the injury-depleted, patch-work defensive line not pressuring quarterbacks is issue No. 1.

*What a weird, (sorta) wonderful World Series punctuated by two of the craziest endings you'll ever see. I maintain that it's great theater, but bad baseball. In Game 3 Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks inexplicably failed to catch a throw at the bag, then sprawled on the dirt and was called for - of all things - obstruction. First walk-off lay-down in baseball history. Then came last night's peculiar finish. With his team trailing by two and the bat in the hands of Carlos Beltran, pinch-runner Kolten Wong was somehow picked-off 1st base. What happens in Game 5? I predict Nolan Ryan reveals his resignation from Rangers was because he still had an itch to scratch and goes out and throws his 8th career no-hitter for Cardinals.

*Lions 31, Cowboys 30: My Top 10 Whitty Comments are over at NBC's Blue Star Blog.

*If you were surprised to hear that Randy Galloway's ultimate replacement on 103.3 FM ESPN is the duo of Matt Mosley/Tim Cowlishaw, then you haven't been reading Whitt's End close enough. Their offering - The Afternoon Show - begins today at 3.

WHITT'S END: 10.3.13

Whether you're at the end of your coffee, your day, your week or even your rope, welcome to Whitt's End

*Wednesday's firing of Rangers' bench coach Jackie Moore alerts us as to who is really in charge in Arlington these days: Jon Daniels. Moore was a long-time Nolan Ryan guy. A baseball lifer. A 70-something whose seen 5,000+ games from the dugout alongside the likes of Whitey Herzog, Billy Martin and Lou Pinella. But the GM apparently wants sitting beside manager Ron Washington someone more like, well, the GM. A younger guy with a statsier approach. Daniels wants science and scouting over guts and guile. Tell that to Joe Torre, who won four titles in the Yankees' dugout with Don Zimmer in his hip pocket. Like Zimmer, Moore still thinks WAR is something to be avoided, not studied. Besides, who is Wash gonna hug from now on after wins? Probably his pack of cigs.

*Been telling you for a month or so that Randy Galloway's radio days were numbered. Now we know the exact number: 3. Galloway, a DFW media icon for 50 years, will do his regular shift on 103.3 FM ESPN Thursday, Friday and then hang up his microphone after Monday afternoon's 3-6 p.m. show. I'm told sidekick Matt Mosley will get a new partner for the prime-time slot starting next week. Who it be? Stay tuned.

*I got an idea: Let's NOT tailgate in a Cowboys' jersey before they play Chargers in San Diego.

*Went to the Office Depot on Highway 377 in Watauga yesterday in search of a computer, etc. for our Pizza Buzz office. Me: "So, um, what's the difference between this one and that one?" Associate in red shirt: "Hmm. Let me see ... Well, I don't think anything." Really? Because the price between the computers was $100. In hamburger money that's like $3. A burger for $7 better be a whole different - hopefully better - than the one for $4. Even more frustrating, after 20 minutes figuring out which one was best for us, yep, you guessed it ... neither one was in stock. Bought the display out-of-box at a big discount and am hoping for the best. By the way, Dead & Gone: Desktop computer "towers." Now they're just somehow "built in" to the monitor. Freaky.

*Tell me again that baseball doesn't over-celebrate. The Rays have already enjoyed three champagne parties - clinching tiebreaker, winning tiebreaker, winning Wild Card - before the first pitch of the ALDS.

*The Cowboys are 2-0 at home. Amazingly, they haven't started 3-0 since the days of Aikman, Emmitt, Deion, Texas Stadium and Prince. Yep, 1999. One of the reasons? AT&T Stadium - where the Cowboys are 20-15 - just  isn't an intimidating place. I discuss over at NBC 5's Blue Star Blog.

WHITT'S END: 9.6.13

Whether you're at the end of your rope or merely the end of your week, welcome to Whitt's End

*Disneyland coming to Texas has been a rumor longer than the one about that giant swarm of killer bees migrating to the Metroplex. And with the Cowboys planting roots in Frisco, the urban legend has been re-booted. Or is fake after all? I'm told by some astute real-estate folks that Disney is again sniffing around the land along Dallas Parkway all the way up near 380. I was at that intersection yesterday and it'd be the perfect spot. And to piggyback America's theme park with the headquarters of America's Team ... maybe it's too good to be true.

*Those people bouncing into the office today, passing out free donuts and high-fives? They have Peyton Manning on their Fantasy Football teams. Seven touchdown passes, 0 interceptions in Denver's season-opening romp over the defending Ravens Thursday night. No Cowboys' quarterback has ever thrown seven. Or six. A bunch have had five-touchdown games including Eddie LeBaron, Don Meredith, Craig Morton, Danny White, Troy Aikman and Tony Romo. Nope, Roger Staubach never threw more than four.

*After losing two of three to the A's, the Rangers' lead in the AL West has gone the way of Lamar Odom's value - poof. And it only gets tougher. After going a month with games against losing teams, Texas plays opponents with +.500 records 13 consecutive games starting with the Pirates on Monday. Oakland, meanwhile, has only three games left against a winning team, and that's when it visits Arlington next weekend.

*Of course, a year ago today we thought the Rangers were in great shape. On Sept. 6, 2012, they led the A's by 5.5 games before ... well, you know the rest.

*Johnny Goofball is on the cover of TIME magazine this week under a headline that screams for universities to start paying its athletes. (But, wait, if he didn't take any money for signing autographs why is this idea being brought up again? Wink.) Can't tell you what a horrible idea this is. Athletes are already paid. Their paychecks are called scholarships. Now, take away their free housing, books and classes and we'll talk. But paying athletes will reduce their motivation of going to class. And even if it's legal to pay players, you don't think some schools are going to break those rules and push those limits? Paying players will create more problems than it will solve.

*I can be a fun man. But I am not a smart man. The latter was on full display last weekend at a pool party in which I thought it would be a good idea to do shots of tequila while getting zapped by a dog's shock collar, then capping it off with a game of beer pong substituting Crown Royal Black. I'm just now recovered.

*We all know the Giants are 4-0 in Arlington. But if the Cowboys are to start 1-0 Sunday Night at AT&T Stadium they'll have to buck another long-term trend. In the last 14 years they've started a season with a win at home just once ... in '07 against the Giants.

*There are only four receivers in NFL history with at least 200 catches, 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns in their first three seasons: Jerry Rice. Randy Moss. Andre Rison. And ... yep, Dez Bryant.
