BEST OF: Gunning For A Change 12.15.2012

Just because Sybil and I are out frolicking in the South Pacific, couldn't leave you guys hanging. So while I'm gone let's do what the syndicated radio shows do. Yeah, a little "best of ..."
I'll post some of my favorite stories from the past and before you know it I'll be back live and in living color with tales from abroad.
Thanks again for your patronage, your patience and your understanding of my honeymoon sabbatical.

GUNNING FOR CHANGE
By Richie Whitt

Things I desperately do not want for Christmas:
   1. A gun.
   2. Bullets.
   3. Another mass murder of innocent Americans.
   4. More guns.
   5. A gun.
I acknowledge and respect that I’m smack dab in the red-state, red-blooded center of God ‘n Guns Texas, where we’re brainwashed from birth into thinking you’re only a macho man’s man if you drive a pickup equipped with a gun rack. But if last Friday’s mass murder in Newtown, Connecticut isn’t the tipping point for – at the very least – a legit, open-minded referendum on gun control in America then I cringe at what it will take ...

  1. One of Hitler's first moves was gun control. Don't forget that.

  2. Yeah, making guns against the law will surely deter someone who was willing to shoot up a shopping mall or movie theater. They damn sure don't want to go to jail for possessing an evil firearm. And William is right Richie, Hitler, as well as Stalin, Castro, Minh, and many other tyrants throughout history are right on board with you and your simple mind. Congrats!!

  4. Uh, the "idea" that Hitler "banned guns" is simply not true. I'd suggest one should do some historical research first before making these "Hitler banned guns dammit!" claims and trying to compare them to the U.S. Frankly, it's ignorance. Here's the truth...

    **********

Gun restriction laws applied only to handguns, not to long guns or ammunition. The 1938 revisions completely deregulated the acquisition and transfer of rifles and shotguns, as was the possession of ammunition.

The legal age at which guns could be purchased was lowered from 20 to 18.

Permits were valid for three years, rather than one year.

The groups of people who were exempt from the acquisition permit requirement expanded. Holders of annual hunting permits, government workers, and NSDAP members were no longer subject to gun ownership restrictions. Prior to the 1938 law, only officials of the central government, the states, and employees of the German Reichsbahn Railways were exempted.

Jews were prohibited from possessing any dangerous weapons, including firearms. They were also forbidden from the manufacturing or dealing of firearms and ammunition.

    *********

See, the only folks who were fucked were the Jewish people.

Look, I get the RW criticism here and it's deserved. The dude's decision to include a pay wall was F'n ridiculous -- and probably a bit of professional suicide. But I'd at least get a clue before posing ignorant "Hitler banned guns!" rants as well as personally insulting RW. In fact, the personal insults are probably from losers who are living miserable lives.

  5. Two truths about law:
    1. A law cannot prevent crime. A law is just a definition of what is lawful or unlawful.
    2. Laws only affect law abiding citizens. So gun control laws are only controling the guns of law abiding citizens. They are not the people committing the gun crimes.
Everything that Adam Lanza did at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown CT is already against the law. So a new law is not needed to define it as unlawful. The idea that we need to pass a new law to stop people from committing a crime is the politicians' lie to make you think they control reality.

  6. 6:19, so the Jews were precluded from owning firearms. And in the spirit of full disclosure, remind us what happened to them again? I vaguely remember something about millions being rounded up and executed en masse, but maybe I got it wrong.
