Canine Corner: Valentino

This handsome guy is Valentino. He's a special boy who was abandoned at the Dallas shelter when his previous owner realized he was deaf. (Sidenote: Some people suck.) Valentino has never let his disability slow him down. He completed basic obedience training, and he now knows sign language! He proved to be a fast learner, having mastered 23 hand signals in only five weeks.

Valentino lost his left eye in a freak accident while he was playing. He's still just as cheerful as ever! He gets along great with his foster pup siblings, and he loves cuddling with humans too. This Australian Cattle dog is 10 months old. He's already neutered and current on his shots. He's also housebroken and crate-trained. Valentino will make someone's family very happy. Might it be yours?

Canine Corner: Ally

Ally is between one and two years old, and she weighs 55 pounds. She's a peaceful Pit Bull mix who gets along great with other dogs and cats too! She takes daily medication for an enlarged heart, but she's very healthy otherwise and the cost is minimal (about $10/month).

Ally loves going for car rides, and she would make a great addition to your family! Ally is spayed and up-to-date on all shots. She's also housebroken so you won't have to worry about any accidents. She's even crate-trained if you'd prefer to put her in her kennel while you're away. She's a sweet dog who needs a home. Could it be yours?

Syb's End: 11.20.13

Howdy. Since Richie's been mailing it in lately, and I just so happen to have a little extra time on my hands, I decided to jump into the DFWSportatorium driver's seat. So grab a coffee/beer/joint, and let's go reading!

*Ever heard the saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"? That's how I feel about George Zimmerman. To date, he's had multiple domestic violence issues with an ex-fiancee, his estranged wife and current girlfriend. His most recent tangle landed him in jail, where his soon-to-be ex served him with divorce papers. He's out now with an ankle monitor and a restraining order from his current ladyfriend. You would think a guy who got away with murder would settle down and carry out the rest of his days as a law-abiding citizen, cautious not to ruffle any feathers...right, OJ?

*The old "Are NASCAR drivers athletes?" debate again rears its ugly head. This time it was in the Twitter court room of country superstar Blake Shelton and noted NASCAR writer Jeff Gluck. It started with Gluck's tweet, "I don't think all #NASCAR drivers are athletes, sorry. But Jimmie is." Shelton (longtime friend of driver Clint Bowyer and others) responded, "Just like not all writers have credibility, sorry..." Said Gluck: "...so if I bought myself a ride in NASCAR, would you guys suddenly say I'm an athlete? C'mon. Just because I buy a guitar doesn't make me a musician." To which BS replied,"Hey @jeff_gluck.. It's over. You lost. Move on." Hate to admit it, but I'm gonna side with the NASCAR expert on this one.

*Congratulations to hometown girl Kelly Clarkson! She's looked pregnant for years, and now she finally is.

*The 15-year-old in me can't wait to see Hunger Games: Catching Fire this weekend. I read the books and dragged Richie to last year's trilogy opener. If you too wanna get in the spirit, check out Lorde's remake of Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", which is featured on the soundtrack. Her haunting rendition is sure to stimulate your senses.

*Tim Duncan's new sidepiece is a Texas native, which might explain why she rocks Spurs and Rangers gear. Question for you sports purists: Is this allowed? Since San Antonio doesn't have an MLB team, can she borrow ours? Or is that unstable? I think chicks have an advantage when it comes to team allegiance because we can root for whomever and justify it with girl logic. ("My boyfriend is from there", "It's in the same state", "Their QB is hot.") Either way, Vanessa Macias looks good doing it.

*If you plan to do any holiday shopping on the interwebs this year, might I introduce you to Adopt A Shelter? It's a legit website that allows you to buy from major retailers who sponsor animal charity groups. For example, you go to Adopt A Shelter, search for DFW Rescue Me, and a portion of your proceeds will be donated to DFWRM. It's a free service, and they're linked to big name sites- Amazon, Target, Old Navy, eBay, etc. So please help some local dogs this season with a simple click.

  *Hot.

  *Not.

Canine Corner: Patches

Patches is a one-year-old Pit Bull mix. She weighs about 40 pounds, and she's very mild-mannered. She does well on a leash, and she's already housebroken. Plus, Patches is incredibly smart. She knows how to use the doggie door and understands basic commands. This pretty girl also loves to play fetch!

Patches is an adorable pup. The volunteers absolutely love her sweet nature. She gets along well with other dogs too. Her short hair makes her easy to groom, and she's already up-to-date on all shots. She's even spayed. Look at those darling freckles on her nose! SYB'S END: 10.24.13

*Howdy. Since Richie’s been mailing it in this week, and I just so happen to have a little extra time on my hands these days, I decided to jump in the Sportatorium driver’s seat. So grab a coffee/beer/joint and let’s go reading!

*Game 1 of the World Series was last night, as was Duck Dynasty. I don’t have a vested interest in either one so I spend time pondering more important matters…like whose beard would win in a fight?

*I’m usually a fan of playoff songs to support your favorite team, but who thought this was a good idea? She sounds nothing like Lorde, and the commenters on this here blog could undoubtedly write funnier lyrics. Besides, if this is what we’re missing out on by “never being Cardinals”, I’ll take it.

*In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. The dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the “Special Victim’s Unit”. These are their stories. In related news, who knew Olivia Benson was hanging out at Budget Suites in The Colony?

*Looks like Pauly D’s definitely DTF. Down to Father. The Jersey Shore alum knocked up a former Hooters waitress in Vegas, and now they’re battling over custody. His babymama ain’t bad-looking either. Wouldn’t it be great if his daughter Amabella dated Snooki’s son Lorenzo? Oh, I’m the only one who thinks that’s cool? Alright then, I’ll just sit back down over here.

*I consider myself a reality tv junkie, and I’ll cop to watching the worst of the worst shows (Bad Girls Club, anyone?) But Big Tips Texas is about to get itself deleted off my season pass. I was so excited to see a local show about “hot”, crazy girls right here in our backyard, and if it’s MTV, it’s gotta be slick, right? Wrong. The scenes are so fake (“I hate that girl. I wanna kick her ass. Oh, she coinciveniently showed up at the exact same bar at the exact same time on the exact same night as us? I’m gonna confront her.”) and we’re being sold a bill of goods because only two of the castmembers are actually attractive. Case in point.

*If you’re wife/girlfriend/sidepiece is still undecided on what to wear for Halloween, Kristen Schaal has a possibly NSFW solution.

*Hot.

*Not.

Canine Corner: Wally Schirra

After much success with our RAGE Rescue program, we've decided to continue helping local pups find homes by featuring more dogs from DFW Rescue Me. We'll call this blog item "Canine Corner", and we'll post an available dog each week. (Last week's entry was Sparty.)

You may remember our first "Canine Corner" featuring Kate. She was rescued a few weeks ago, and she had nine pups the very next night! She also had babies prior to that, one of whom was Wally's mama. So, Wally is Kate's grandpup. Since Kate is a Lab/Basset mix, we know Wally has some Labrador in him. Plus, he loves to swim!
Wally is up-to-date on all his shots, and he will be fixed as soon as he's old enough. (That's included when you adopt him, all you have to do is provide him love and aftercare!) Canine Corner: Kate

After much success with our RAGE Rescue program, we have decided to continue helping local pups find homes by featuring more dogs from DFW Rescue Me. We'll call this blog item "Canine Corner'' and we'll post an available dog each week. I present to you our first guest of honor ... Kate!
Kate was found pregnant, roaming the streets of Dallas, with a tummy so large it dragged on the ground. She was taken by a DFW Rescue Me volunteer to a local vet, and the next night she delivered nine healthy puppies!
Her puppies have found great homes, and we are hoping Kate can find one too. She's a smart dog, and she knows simple commands. She's also potty-trained. Kate is very affectionate, and she loves to have her ears and belly rubbed.
She's a happy dog who wags a lot, and she gets along with other dogs and even cats! She knows her life was saved so she's very appreciative. She'll make a great companion.
Kate is a Black Lab/Basset Hound mix. She weighs about 50 pounds, and she's now spayed. For more information on sweet Kate, please click here.
